j (Jennifer) Vargas (they/she) is a San Diego born Chicana + Puebla descendant and an artist. j is a graduate of UC Berkeley with a Bachelors in Architecture and has completed the Museum Studies Program at Mesa College. Their art practice leans towards sculpture and installation, exploring form, light, shadow and materiality to communicate the collective human experience. They were selected as a 2021 Artist In Residence at the Art Produce Garden located in North Park, San Diego, and as an exhibiting artist for City of Encinitas 2022. Vargas explores intimate landscapes within the human experience to make them accessible, visible and tangible. Currently their work focuses on colorful outdoor sculptures and wearables, and how their relationship with different light and shadow communicates emotions.
